Tim Barnes, Director of Distribution and Regional Sales Manager for Premier Select Sires, retires on April 30, 2025 after 42 years of dedicated service. Please join us in thanking him for all he has done for our cooperative!

Tim grew up in East Tennessee and was an active 4-H member from grades 5-12. He showed Hereford cattle and participated in other 4-H projects and events. Upon his high school graduation in 1977, Tim attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated in 1981 with a BS in Animal Science. While in college, he was a member of the dairy and livestock judging teams, and he was also active in the Block and Bridle Club (serving as both Vice President and President). Tim worked on the University/Alcoa Farm feeding bulls and tending to the cow herd.

Tim began working for Tennessee Artificial Breeders Association (TABA) on October 31, 1983. He was initially hired to be a Beef Coordinator and Area Sales Manager in the Middle Tennessee area. Since beginning his career, Tim has witnessed the evolution of the organization as it became the cooperative we now know as Premier Select Sires.

“Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in acquiring West TN and Alabama sales territory from Select Sires, as well as mergers with East Tennessee Select Sires, MidSouth Select Sires, and lastly, Select Sire Power to become the cooperative we are today,” said Tim.

Throughout his tenure, Tim has served in sales, bull collection, A.I. training, distribution, and management.

Most recently, Tim has served as the Director of Distribution, while also fulfilling the role of Regional Sales Manager for Middle and West Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

“Looking back at my career, there have been lots of special moments and memories, but one thing that sticks out the most are the people. Whether coworkers or customers, the people I have come to know over the years have made it the most memorable,” said Tim. “I have truly been blessed to have been a part of a well-managed cooperative with great member director leadership.”

In retirement, Tim looks forward to taking trips with his wife, Beverly. In addition to travel plans, Tim and Beverly look forward to helping their grandchildren with their sheep projects and taking in more of the grandkid’s weekly activities. They also plan to do a little more landscaping than time has allowed while employed. With any luck and good weather, they hope to have their home looking like a state park in no time!
